Deacon George M. Jefferson departed this earthly life on October 13, 2008. He was born August 10, 1929 in Mayesville, SC to the late William McKinley Jefferson and Julia Dix Jefferson.
Believing education is the key to unlock doors, he seeked knowledge after completing Mayesville Institute High School, he matriculated to Allen University, Columbia, South Carolina, obtaining a B.S. in Chemistry. George obtained his M.A. in Education from South Carolina State College, Orangeburg, South Carolina. Having been prepared, George would spend 32 years of his life educating the youth of South Carolina.
George was a Charter Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Allendale Masonic Lodge No.53, and the NAACP. He was a Community Activist, Civil Right Activist and Political Activist. He believed in justice and was always ready to fight for people who were unable to fight for themselves. He stood for what was right even if he had to stand alone.
He leaves to cherish precious memories: A loving wife, Nancy Jefferson; Four daughters: Janie M. Wilson, New York, NY, Shanna A. Jefferson, Durham, NC, Julia S. Jefferson, Hampton, SC, and Jessica S. Jefferson of the home; One son, Marion Burgess, Bronx, NY.

The George M. Jefferson Agent of Change Scholarship Fund is the 1st Project of The Destination Greatness Foundation. The scholarship fund will support college-bound High School seniors in Allendale County, SC; Sumter County, SC; and Durham County, NC.
